Discovering the cathar mountains

DescriptionThe departure of this trek is the small mountain village of Camurac (1300 m), a wild and authentic place in the Plateau of Aillou, a high pyrenean plateau where the climate, the animals and the flora are similar to the high mountains environment. During the first part of our tour we will discover the mountains spurs of Ariege and Aude : lakes and castles that remind the tragic history of the Cathars and several viewpoints on the Pyrenees. We will ride on open and easy trails (easy conditions that suit the riders not used to the mountain).Ascent to the mountains and once in the Plateau of Sault the riders can enjoy galloping in the freedom of great spaces.      ScheduleSaturdayReception of the riders at the gîte near CamuracSundayCamurac (gîte) – Montségur (gîte)Descent from the Plateau of Aillou through the Gorges of Frau, a canyon where the cliffs above us are 400 meters deep, dug by a torrent in the calcareous rocks. Bottom of Montsegur castle (920m), the last famous Cathars shelter MondayMontségur – Roquefixade (gîte)A ride through great mossy woods towards Roquefixade castle(750m), that appears at the top of a cliff as out of our way. Ride to the castle and gorgeous panorama over the Chain of Tabes and the valley under our feet. TuesdayRoquefixade – Montbel (bivouac)Descent in the valley, open and wild trails up to Montbel Lake where we finally rest for the end of the day and wait for the stars by a fire. WednesdayMontbel – Puivert (gîte)Accross a boxwood,green and warm valley of Puivert. Visit of the castle on horse, swimming in the lake at the bottom of the castle. ThursdayPuivert – Belvis (bivouac)Ascent to the high plateau, gallops. FridayBelvis - Camurac (gîte)Discovery of the Plateau of Aillou. SaturdayDeparture from Camurac.This is our easiest trek, for the rides to get used of mountain treks. We stay at your disposal for any question. Dates
