The great two weeks trek

Description

If you want to live a true journey of horse trekking we suggest to combine two treks.

We use a packhorse for this very wild trek and do not have a four-wheel drive every day at our disposal.

Planning

Two weeks trek

The adventure trek is the package of the Pass mountains trek and the Lakes trek which combine together perfectly and make a tour of more than 250 km around the Massif of the Carlit in high mountains. The landscape is a succession of lakes and torrents in a wild atmosphere of high mountains. During this adventure you might be escorted by vultures and izards.

We plan one day off in Porté Puymorens in the middle of the trek. This trek is quite hard, as all the time in the heights with technical trails. Moreover the mountains refuges do not offer the same accommodation conditions as the gîtes.

Reception of the riders at the gite of Comus

Comus (gîte)– Belvis (gîte bivouac)
Accross the Plateau of Languerail to the west

Monday

Belvis - Artigues (Gîte)
Departure from the plateau of Sault, accross the valley of Rébenty, Rodome then descent to Campagna of Sault, circular path over the gorges of Aude towards Rouze, Mijanès and night in the Hotel in Mijanès.

Tuesday

Artigues – Massif of Madres (Bivouac)
Crossing of Quérigut (castle), col of Hares, high plateau of Capcir, swimming with the horses in the lake of Puyvalador then ascent to the Massif of Madres where we have our bivouac

Wednesday

Madres - Les Angles (Gîte)
Panorama over the plateau of Capcir and the valley of Conflent, descent back to the plateau towards Les Angles. Wild gallops.

Thursday

Les Angles- Bouillouses (Gîte)
Ascent to the Lake of Bouillouses (2016 m) passing by the lake of Aude.

Friday

Bouillouses - Portet Puymorens (Gîte)
Great trip in high mountains (more than 2000 m) around the Carlit over the spanish border, mountains torrents and herds in the summer pastures. Breathtaking descent to Porté Puymorens.

Saturday

Day off for the riders and their horses

Sunday

Porta - Lanoux
From Porté Puymorens ascent to the lake of Lanous at 2200 m where we have a bivouac.

Monday

Lanoux - Camporels (Montagne refuge)
we stay at the same height and ride to the refuge of Camporels by the lakes of the same name at 2250 m in the middle of the réserve.

Tuesday

Camporels - Rieutord (cosy gite)
After two days in the heights we make a short stage and come down to the beautiful valley of Galbe to spend the night in a gite at the bottom of a valley.

Wednesday

Rieutord - Rabassolles (bivouac)
We pass by the pond of Quérigut, then make an ascent to the ponds of Rabassolles at 2000 m where we have a great bivouac.

Thursday

Rabassolles - Le Chioula (Mountain refuge)
From the pond of Rabassolles we ride up to the blue pond, then to the black pond towards the «coumeille de l'Ours » at the bottom of the Tarbésou (2364 m), and we arrive at the col of Paillhère from where we keep riding over the crests towards the Chioula refuge with a most impressive panorama over the Pyrenees.

Friday

Chioula - Comus (Gîte)
From the Chioula, we follow the crests untill midday. We cross the estives of the "pla de sept cazes", then go down on Montaillou, an old occitan village with a lot of History, and eventually Comus, end of our trek.

Saturday

Departure from Comus.
Reception and transfert of the riders in Porté Puymorens in Ariège. Night in the gîte in Comus and transfer to the railway station or the airport.
